Belden Place~~French Quarter~~San Francisco

Belden Place and Claude Lane in San Francisco retain the Gallic charm that has flavored this neighborhood ever since 3,000 French settlers first arrived after the Gold Rush. Situated between Chinatown and the Financial District and bordered by Pine Street to Bush Street and between Montgomery and Kearny, Belden Lane is especially picturesque at night by candlight and with twinkle lights strung overhead. This postcard quarter includes charming CafeTiramisu, Cafe Claude, Belden Traverna, Cafe Bastille, Sam's Grill, Plouf, B44, and Brindisi Cucina di Mare.

My favorites are a short saunter up Bush Street. Le Central is where Paris Mayor, Bertrand Delanoe, dined while in The City, and Café de la Presse is next door and near the French Consulate, and the jewel-like Notre-Dame-des-Victories Church. And Alliance Française at 1345 Bush Street opens their to doors for all to browse their collection of books, video tapes, DVDs, CD's and magazines-- or to sit watch French TV or to study French.
