Dining Out in Aix-in-Provence

Since its opening in 1792, Les Deux Garcons on the Cours Mirabeau has attracted celebrities like Édith Piaf, Jean Cocteau, Pablo Picasso, Jean-Paul Sartre, Cezanne, along with tourists, politicians, and local university students. It's the perfect spot to people watch and indulge in Aix's leisurely pace of Aix.

Le Clos de la Violette 10 ave Violette, 04.42.23.30.71. Dine outside in the small garden. Pricey, but worth the splurge.

Chez Féraud 8 rue du Puits Juifs, 04.42.63.07.27, is an ivy-covered rustic spot serving classic Provençal cuisine: pistou soup, daube de boeuf and a local desert: warm stewed figs topped with caramel ice cream.

Le Passage 10, rue Villars; 33-4-4237-0900; www.le-passage.fr is appealing and delicious anytime and especially popular on Friday night for the live jazz.
